The Subject performed the action in the past.

Subject + V2 (Past) + Object

"The chef cooked the meal."

Passive Voice

Was Done

The action happened to the Object. We use 'was/were'.

Obj + was/were + V3 + (by Sub)

"The meal was cooked by the chef."

Rule 1: Switch Places

The Object moves to the front. The Subject moves to the end (or is dropped).

Rule 2: Add 'Be' (Past)

Use was for singular objects.
Use were for plural objects.

Rule 3: Past Participle

The main verb is always in the 3rd form (V3).
